The Include Me project is designed to promote and expand inclusive practices for students with significant disabilities, grades K-12, and the schools they attend. The Arc of Pennsylvania, with guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education and the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network, is working with student teams to provide training and on-site technical assistance to participating students so they can attend school with the supports they need to be successfully and meaningfully included in general education classrooms.

What types of training and technical assistance is provided?

Qualified Include Me project consultants are prepared to provide support and training on the following topics for school personnel/student teams (including administrators, general and special education teachers, guidance counselors, school nurses, para-professionals, and support staff and parents and family members of children with disabilities).

  • Facilitation of Supplementary Aids and Services Toolkit (to identify supports for student and team)
  • Standard Aligned Systems and Access to the General Curriculum (as a resource for curriculum modification)
  • Assistive Technology (for communication and/or access to the curriculum and classroom)
  • Creating Agreement (how to resolve differences)
  • Writing IEP Goals (writing measurable and meaningful goals aligned to the standards and general curriculum)
  • Progress Monitoring (how to measure if your child is making progress on IEP goals)
  • Chapter 14 Regulations (what the laws are regarding special education)
  • Disability Issues (sensitivity/awareness issues; training on a specific disability or related concern – training will be determined based on the child and the needs of the team)

I need tutorial resources for my grandson for math and reading. He is currently in the 7th grade, and is receiving special education in these two subjects within the class room. he has been diagnosed with intellectual disability. I would like to add tutoring for him to enhance what he is receiving in class.
Thank you for whatever information you can provide!

      Hi Denise,

First of all, I think that it’s great that you want to provide extra tutoring for your grandson. Are you and your grandson currently living in Pennsylvania? If you are I’d encourage you to give your local Arc chapter a call as they can point you to more resources local to your area. In addition to that there are a lot of great free resources online for providing supplemental learning. If you have an iPad I’d recommend looking at our resources page to find apps which can help your grandson http://includemepa.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Apps-for-Inclusive-Practices-March-2012.pdf. You can check the iTunes store for “Pennsylvania Learns on iTunes U” it contains lesson plans, course material and homework and quizzes straight from the standards alligned curriculum used in schools for grades 6-12 and is completely free. If you don’t have an iPad there are also free websistes such as Khan Academy which provide great interactive lessons in math and other subjects. Hope this helps!

I signed the form for my son who will be starting kindergarten this fall in Pittston. When do we know if he will receive the services provided by this program? Thank you.

      Hi Deanna,

Thank you for your interest in the program! The form that you signed will be added to the list of interested families that are willing to participate in your school district. Unfortunately due to our limited resources, we cannot reach every school district. However, we are working currently working with Pittston, and it’s possible that we will return if the district wishes to continue our partnership. If we do work with Pittston you will be contacted by either the school or our local consultant at the beginning of the next school year between August and October.
